Livingston Engineering is proud to work on the facilities of many of the world’s major automakers. We have worked on projects ranging from assembly plants to automotive test tracks at facilities for General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Fiat Chrysler (FCA), Toyota and Nissan. Working on these projects is always exciting and provides very interesting surveying and construction challenges. The most challenging projects are the testing facilities that range from High Speed tracks such as Ford High Speed ovals in Michigan and Arizona and the General Motors Circle track at the Milford Proving Ground with their parabolic cross-sections where test speeds can reach over 200 mph, to slow speed events such as Belgian Block roads that can’t be driven at over 25 mph due to their severe roughness, and tracks at the Ford Michigan Proving Ground where the vehicles are driven by remote control due to the bone jarring bumps built into the course. These tracks all share a common element in that they need precise adherence to plan location and elevation, either to achieve extreme smoothness or repeatable roughness. We have developed methods to help contractors maintain the control of line and grade needed to achieve these results
Over the last 15 years, we have been fortunate to have worked on many projects located across the country, including; Michigan, Kentucky, Arizona, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. The team at Livingston Engineering has nearly 20 years of experience working on numerous projects at the General Motors Milford Proving Ground, including the Milford Road Course, Active Safety Test Area, Circle Track and North-South Straightaway, the latter two being paving award winning projects. Livingston Engineering also has over 10 years’ experience working at test facilities for Ford Motor Company at the Michigan Proving Grounds on the paving award winning 5 mile long High Speed Oval, The Dearborn Development Center’s 2 mile High Speed Track, the Arizona Proving Ground 2 mile High Speed Oval, Vehicle Dynamics Pad and High-Speed Straightaway. For FCA, we recently worked on new test features at the new Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, as well as the Chelsea Proving Ground and Yucca Arizona Desert Proving Grounds. Belgian Block Test roads.
